Rasmussen College To Open Campus In Brooklyn Park
BROOKLYN PARK, MN -- September 22, 2004 -- Construction on Rasmussen College's newest campus will begin at the southeast corner of 93rd Avenue and Highway 169 in Brooklyn Park later this month. The Brooklyn Park City Council approved a conditional use permit for construction of a 26,000 square-foot Rasmussen College last Monday.
The Brooklyn Park location will be the school's fifth campus in Minnesota. "We're in the process of looking to expand a campus a year over the next five to seven years," said Susan Hammerstrom, Vice President of Enrollment Services.
At the same site, Duke Realty Corp., which is constructing the college, also is planning a 140,000 square-foot multi-tenant building for office, manufacturing and warehouse use, which will be called Crosstown Building 10.
The Rasmussen building will have a glass curtain wall and a brick facade. The Crosstown 10 building will be pre-cast concrete with 8-foot high facing and also have a glass corner, "so the Rasmussen building and Building 10 can complement each other," said Hammerstrom.
Rasmussen has campuses in Eagan, Minnetonka, Mankato and St. Cloud. It offers two-year associate of arts degrees and diplomas and certificates in a variety of careers. Hammerstrom said the Brooklyn Park site was chosen because it provides good access to Interstate 694 and because the area is growing.
"One of the key factors to go to Brooklyn Park was the overwhelming support we got from city leaders and business officials," Hammerstrom said. The northwest campus will specialize in the fields of business, information technology, medical and allied health.
The first group of students is expected to begin classes in July 2005, Hammerstrom said. Initially, about 20 staff will be employed but that figure is expected to increase to 75 as enrollment rises. "Eventually, we will be able to grow up to 600 students at the campus," Hammerstrom said.
