As a Self-DirectED online student, you can choose your pace—how many faculty-led courses you want to take per term—and enroll in optional competency courses that allow you to complete some of your work on your own. This way, your pace is directed by you, and so is the total cost of your degree; the more ambitious your schedule is, the more you can save on your tuition.

There are many options, but check out our sample degree plans below to find the pace that's right for you:

What Are Competency Courses?

Competency-based learning allows you to demonstrate skills most sought-after by today’s employers at the pace that’s right for you. Our competency courses are offered online at your convenience so you can move quickly through concepts or take your time learning new material. They are flexible and completely optional, but choosing to take them alongside your faculty-led online courses can help you graduate sooner.

I like the flexibility of being able to make progress through what I know and get the credit without having to pay for a traditional course. Learning at my own pace without having to follow a structured schedule works really well for me.
