What Medical Laboratory Technicians Do:
Medical Laboratory Technicians perform routine medical laboratory tests for the detection, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. They may also perform other numerous and varied tasks, such as:
- Examine and analyze body fluids, tissues, and cells.
- Analyze the chemical content of fluids.
- Examine various specimens for bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms.
- Conduct blood tests for the transfusion blood products.
- Test drug levels in the blood to show how a patient is responding to treatment
- Prepare specimens for examination, count cells, and look for abnormal cells
- Use automated equipment and instruments capable of performing a number of tests simultaneously
