Surgical Technologists, also called “Scrubs,” “Surgical Technicians” or “Operating Room Technicians,” are Allied Health professionals, who work as part of a surgical team to ensure all operative procedures are conducted under optimal conditions. Technologists advance by specializing in a particular area of surgery, such as neurosurgery, or open-heart surgery.

What Will I Learn in the Surgical Technology Program?
You will take a variety of focused courses that will help you prepare for a successful career in Surgical Technology. Below is a sampling of some of the courses you will take.

What Surgical Technologists Do:
- Pre-op preparation of the operating room by setting up surgical instruments (both sterile and non-sterile) and necessary equipment
- Pre-op prep of patients for surgery
- Transport patients to the operating room, positioning them on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical "drapes"
- Assist in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses or other surgical personnel
- During surgery, passing instruments and other supplies to Surgeons and Surgeon Assistants
- Observe and report patients’ vital signs and reviewing charts
- Post-op transfer of patients to the recovery room
- Post-op responsibility for transportation of specimens for laboratory analysis
- Post-op cleaning and restocking of the operating room
