About Mankato, Minnesota

Mankato is located in southern Minnesota, surrounded and intersected by the Minnesota, Blue Earth, and Le Sueur Rivers. As transportation along the rivers grew in the late 1800s, so did Mankato.  Industrial and manufacturing facilities sprung up throughout Mankato in the early 1900s, and the city began to reap the financial benefits of being one of Minnesota’s first river towns.

Industrial and manufacturing industry growth slowed and today, Mankato prides itself on striving to be a progressive, successful, and welcoming community to residents and businesses alike.  The city offers a variety of community events that appeal to residents of all ages.  As an increased number of major businesses move into the Mankato area, the city endeavors to maintain an organized zoning and development process that will maximize new and current business expansion while simultaneously providing residents with continued employment opportunities.
