Pasco County (FL) — Since last October, Rasmussen College has awarded thirty-nine high school seniors with more than $97 thousand in scholarship money total.

Rasmussen College began offering the academic-based scholarships to high school seniors a few years ago, but this is the largest annual sum ever.

Katelyn Hamilton graduated from Ridgewood High School in New Port Richey June 6 and is a recipient of the Silver Circle Award. She will receive $2 thousand to be applied toward her Associate's degree in Computer Information Systems. Katelyn plans to continue with Rasmussen College to earn her Bachelor's degree.

"This scholarship means a lot to me," Katelyn said. "It means that I can continue my education after high school and earn a college degree."

Katelyn got a head start in her college career at Rasmussen College by participating in the Early Start program, which is free to all high school juniors and seniors. In Early Start, high school students take general education courses that they can apply to whatever college they choose to attend.

High school students interested in taking advantage of the Early Start program and earning college credit at no charge during their junior and senior year should contact Admissions Representative Melanie Weiser at (727) 942-0069.

Katelyn has taken two courses at Rasmussen College while she completed her classes at Ridgewood. She is taking Introduction to Communications and English Composition.

"I really like the people here, and the teachers are awesome", Katelyn said. "The staff and faculty are friendly and everyone knows me. It's the best option for me."
