Ft. Myers (FL) — A technology workshop for the Greater Ft. Myers Women in Business will be hosted by Rasmussen College on August 6, and will focus on educating female entrepreneurs on new technologies to help them compete in the business world.
In 2005, men outnumbered women in technology careers by a ratio of 4-to-1, according to Information Weekly. New studies are finding that young women today are excelling in math skills and are taking more math classes in high school than they did in the past.
According to a July 2008 story by Time, studies show that recent math scores of females are equal to those of their counterparts, and much of this is due to women completing higher level math courses than they have in the past. This trend of bridging the math gender gap has the potential to increase the number of women in math, science, and technology careers.
Cisco Systems National Initiatives Manager Carroll McGillan said in an article by eSchool News, "We really need women in the IT [information technology] arena because we need to have diversity of thought, generate new ideas, and create a workforce that mirrors the world we're a part of."
The Women in Business event is entitled "I Want to be Savvy with Current Technology" and includes two workshops: Marketing on the Web and Network Security.
"Service to our community is a significant part of our mission," Campus Director Eric White said. "This workshop is intended to help Ft. Myers' business community grow and strengthen. We look forward to providing future workshops like this."
The event will take place August 6 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Rasmussen College campus located at 9160 Forum Corporate Parkway in Ft. Myers.
