Unemployment Rates Decline In December Employment Situation Report Showing Increased Job Opportunities In Leisure And Hospitality And Health Care Fields

MINNEAPOLIS, (January 11, 2011) –According to the latest Employment Situation Reportreleased yesterday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, year-end unemployment rates showed some improvement, dropping to 9.4 percent in December from 9.8 percent in November, to become the lowest unemployment rate since July 2009. Credited in part to a decrease in the number of civilians looking to enter the labor force, the improved unemployment rate demonstrates continued growth in the leisure and hospitality and health care industries, reporting more than 47,000 new jobs in leisure and hospitality-related fields and more than 36,000 new jobs in health care-related fields.
“While the job market is increasingly more difficult to enter without a college degree, last month’s positive growth in industries such as leisure and hospitality and health care will provide many qualified graduates the chance to enter and advance in these fields,” National Director of Career Development for Rasmussen College Tamryn Hennessy said. “ We are heartened that the group seeing the strongest improvements in employment are college degree holders. People with an Associate’s degree sawn an improvement from 8.7% to 8.1% in unemployment and Bachelor’s degree holders rates dropped from 5.1% to 4.8%.”
