MOORHEAD, N.D. (March 21, 2011) – Moorhead resident and librarian BethMarie Gooding has been selected by the Minnesota Library Association to speak at its Academic and Research Libraries Division day on April 29, 2011.

Presented in partnership with the Public Libraries Division of the Minnesota Library Association, the Academic Research Libraries Division day is an opportunity for librarians around the state of Minnesota to gather to talk about new technologies that can improve service to library patrons.

Gooding, who is an online librarian for Rasmussen College, will speak about effectively supporting library patrons online and without face-to-face contact. Her presentation, “Connecting with the Online Learner: Using Media to Create Customized Tutorials”, highlights the tactics that Rasmussen College has used in its online library, including video tutorials and screen capture technology to educate students about citations, research, and reference services.

“The ability to connect with students virtually is vital as students come to rely on and expect information to be available in an online, asynchronous, 24/7-accessible format just as their classes continue to move online,” Rasmussen College Director of Library and Learning Resources Emily O’Connor said. “We are proud to have BethMarie representing Rasmussen College and the Moorhead community at this important event, educating librarians about creating a comprehensive online learning environment.”

Gooding, who has been with Rasmussen College for more than five years, has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and a Master of Library and Information Science and a Master of Science in Educational Psychology from Indiana University.
