Chicagoland (March 29, 2011) – As part of its celebration during Week of the Young Child 2011, the Rasmussen College – School of Education will host two very special guest appearances by New York Times best-selling children’s author Susan L. Roth on Friday, April 15. The highly acclaimed, award-winning writer and illustrator of dozens of books will offer a special reading of her latest book, “Listen to the Wind: The Story of Dr. Greg and Three Cups of Tea,”, which she coauthored with Greg Mortenson, at 11 a.m. at the Aurora, IL college campus of Rasmussen College and 3 p.m. at the Romeoville/Joliet, IL college campus. Both events are free and open to the public.

At each appearance, guests will have a chance to meet the author and may bring along their own books to have them signed by Roth. The events are part of the college’s celebration of the annual Week of the Young Child, a program of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, set for April 10-16.

“Listen to the Wind” has spent 52 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list. Roth is also the author and illustrator of many other beloved children’s books, including “Hard Hat Area” and the best-selling “My Love for You.” Her books have earned the New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Book award (“Fire Came to the Earth People”), American Booksellers Association Pick of the List distinction (“The Story of Light,” “Ishi’s Tale of Lizard” and “The Biggest Frog in Australia,”) and the Boston Globe Horn Book Award (“Leon’s Story”), among many other accolades.

“Susan Roth is both a children’s literary icon and renowned for her unique collage illustration technique that brings her stories to life for children of all ages,” said Cecelia Westby, Director of the Early Childhood Education School at Rasmussen College. “We are thrilled to have her here with us and we invite families and educators to bring their children and students to take part in this extraordinary opportunity to hear Susan read ‘Listen to the Wind’ in her own style, meet the author face-to-face and make their own paper doll collages.”

RSVPs are requested for groups planning to attend; individuals and families need not RSVP.
