AURORA, Ill. (May 25, 2011) – Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner has appointed Dalila Alegria, who is a senior program manager at Rasmussen College, to the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board.

Formed in 2002, the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board primarily holds three events throughout the calendar year to gather funds to later give to students as scholarships. The scholarships go to the college of the student’s choice, and the amounts vary based on fundraising. The last event hosted by the board was “El Dia de los Niños” in April, which was a celebration of children. Rasmussen College partnered with the Aurora school district and distributed books to children who attended.

The next events will be the Fiesta Patrias, or National Holiday, celebrated in mid-September in downtown Aurora and the January Community Breakfast. The Community Breakfast is the largest event for the organization, and it is where the scholarship recipients are named and celebrated.

Alegria has been working close with students pursuing degrees in business, health sciences, technology, and more at the Rasmussen College Aurora, IL college campus for more than three years; all while helping them to make successful transitions into college.

“We are extremely proud of Dalila and the contributions she has made not only to our student community, but also to our broader Hispanic community,” Rasmussen College Aurora Campus Director Susan Cheney said. “As a member of the community, we are committed to supporting its growth and success, and Dalila embodies those values through the outstanding community service she does.”
