FT. MYERS, Fla. (June 7, 2011) –Five college students in the Rasmussen College School of Justice Studies at the Ft. Myers, FL college campus were part of the 2011 graduation class from the Ft. Myers Police Department Citizens Police Academy.
Robert Mladenov, Noe Portillo, Karissa Poore, Ana Lucien, and Javier Rivera-Rodriquez were the five students to graduate at a dinner on May 25, which was attended by Ft. Myers Mayor Randall Henderson, Jr., Chief of Police Douglas Baker, and State Senator Lizbeth Benacquisto.
The Ft. Myers Police Citizens Police Academy is an opportunity for community members to work in partnership with the Ft. Myers police department and learn more about how the department operates. The academy runs for ten consecutive weeks, and participants must complete a minimum of 24 hours of instruction in order to graduate the program.
Rasmussen College offers a criminal justice degree with a law enforcement specialization in its School of Justice Studies, and School of Justice Studies Director Matthew Petz said he was proud of the accomplishments of these five students.
“These students are dedicated to success in the world of criminal justice, and they went above-and-beyond what was expected of them when they participated and graduated from the Citizens Police Academy,” Petz said. “We are extremely proud of their dedication and commitment to the field, and we look forward to seeing them in action as criminal justice professionals.”
