FT. MYERS, Fla. (August 23, 2011) – Rasmussen College School of Technology and Design students at the Fort Myers, FL college will work with a local charity to design, build and launch a fully-functional website. As part of its fall term classroom curriculum, which begins October 3, technology and design degree-seeking students will gain hands-on industry experience by working directly with the charity to ensure the website leverages the skills they learn in the classroom, while enhancing the charity’s mission and goals.

Applications are due for review on September 16. A committee of Rasmussen College faculty and staff will select the winning charity based on its needs and goals expressed in the submitted application and announce the winner on September 23. Charities interested in applying for the initiative must:

- Be located in the general Ft. Myers or Naples area

- Submit a 250-word description of their organization

- Submit a 250-word proposal explaining how a website would assist their charity

- Commit to five in-person meetings with students on Rasmussen’s campus throughout the semester to discuss the goals and progress

Applications can be emailed to School of Technology and Design Program Coordinator Jennifer Ayotte by September 14 (, or mailed to Rasmussen College’s Ft. Myers campus (9160 Forum Corporate Parkway; Attn: Jennifer Ayotte; Ft. Myers, FL 33906).

“Rasmussen College prides itself on maintaining lasting partnerships with local community organizations and residents,” said Ayotte. “Usually, a custom-designed website would cost $100 an hour. This website initiative will allow us to continue our commitment to community service by assisting a charity with the development of their website for free, and will provide valuable hands-on experience in the field for our students. Opportunities to combine educational growth with community service are uniquely-beneficial to Rasmussen College and its students.”

Previously, Rasmussen College School of Technology and Design students donated their time and expertise to other Ft. Myers charities on various projects, such as Kiwanis International and Animal Refuge Center.
