ROCKFORD, ILL. (September 6, 2011) – Rasmussen College announced today it is inviting all local residents to discover some of the exciting career opportunities available in the information technology (IT) and digital design industries by attending its free Futuraza TechFest set for 1-4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9 at the Rockford, Ill. college campus located at 6000 East State Street, Fourth Floor.
Part open house, part interactive technology fair, the Futuraza TechFest will highlight some of the latest careers available in the hi-tech sector, along with the skill sets and education required for these in-demand roles, in a fun and interactive environment complete with hands-on workshops, contests, food and prizes.
“The IT and digital industries are overflowing with fascinating job opportunities, from mobile app and video game development to hi-tech computer networking and digital media design,” said Rockford Campus Director Craig Steege. “The problem is that many people who might be interested in these fields don’t know much about how to get started, what kind of training is required, or where to find a job. Futuraza TechFest is designed to show them the path to a future in the high-tech industry.”
In addition to information on training programs at Rasmussen, attendees will have the chance to participate in a number of hands-on activities, including:
• A build-your-own mobile app workshop
• BlackOps gaming tournaments hosted by GameStop
• Digital design photo retouching workshop
• A Wipe Out computer restoration workshop
Futuraza TechFest will also include a display of custom computers and a print and digital art show featuring the work of current Rasmussen students.
“We will also have several special guests from companies in the Rock River Valley who will be on hand to meet and network with students to discuss future career opportunities and the kind of work and skills involved,” said Steege. “And, of course, Rasmussen’s IT career experts will be available to offer information on how to get started in this exciting industry.”
Food and refreshments will be provided, along with prizes for contest winners and others in attendance.
Futuraza TechFest is free and open to the public,.To find out more details, contact the Rasmussen College Rockford Campus at 815-316-4800. For additional information about Rasmussen College, visit www.Rasmussen.edu.
