MINNEAPOLIS, MN (Oct. 5, 2011) – In union with the Eighth Annual National Cyber Security Awareness Month in October, Rasmussen College announces the official launch of its Cyber Security Bachelor’s degree. The new program, which officially was announced on June 30, is available through the College’s network of campus locations in Florida, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security, in cooperation with the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS- ISAC), the month-long campaign advocates the importance of cyber security education—which is supported through our Cyber Security degree program’s drive to develop top-tier technology leaders. October’s campaign is “Our Shared Responsibility,” and reflects the interconnectedness of the modern world and the need for protecting any device that connects to the internet (smart phones, tablets, PCs, etc) against harmful threats.

Enrollment for the Cyber Security Bachelor’s degree program is now open to students for the January 2012 start. Through this degree, experienced faculty serve to support the students’ career marketability through career-relevant, technology-focused courses in areas including Network Security and Cryptography, Hacker Techniques, Tools, & Applications, and Security Strategies for Web Apps and Social Networking.

The Department of Homeland Security denotes the importance of preventing cyber security attacks in a recent statement saying, “The most serious economic and national security challenges we face are cyber threats. America's economic prosperity and competitiveness in the 21st Century depends on effective cyber security.”

“Every program we offer at Rasmussen College is tangential to the needs in the workforce, and the Cyber Security degree is no exception,” said CarieAnn Potenza, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Rasmussen College. “At Rasmussen, we understand the value and need that cyber security experts play in protecting digital networks from virtual terrorism, information breaches, hacking, and computer viruses, and cyber terrorism; it was important for us as an institution of higher education to develop a program that directly addresses this need in the workforce.”
