Rasmussen College is proud to announce it has been awarded the 2013 Student of the Year and Staff Person of the Year Award from the Minnesota Career College Association (MCCA). MCCA represents private post-secondary schools and colleges focused on career specific education. This is the second year in a row Rasmussen College has been recognized by the MCCA. Last year, the College was awarded the Student and Faculty of the Year awards.
Jennifer Kromrey is this year’s MCCA Student of the Year. Kromrey graduated in December 2011 from the Rasmussen College Blaine campus with an Associate’s degree in Medical Administration. Upon graduation, Kromrey decided to continue her education at Rasmussen College and pursue her Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management. She has only missed two days of classes since first enrolling in 2010 and currently holds an impressive 3.96 GPA. As an adult learner, Kromrey willingly shares her personal experience with other students to help motivate and encourage them to pursue their dreams of earning a college degree.
“I have always taught my three children that anything worth doing is worth doing well,” said Kromrey. “It’s wonderful to be recognized for all of my hard work.”
The wife, mother and grandmother also served on the Blaine campuses’ Student Leadership Council and was selected to participate in the Spring 2013 Rasmussen College Leadership Academy. She was also recently selected to testify in front of Minnesota’s Higher Education Committee on why career colleges are so important.
“My children attended state colleges, but being a nontraditional student myself who hadn’t attended college in a long time, I needed a school with more one-on-one instruction,” said Kromrey. “Rasmussen College makes sure each of its students are connected with the support they need to be successful.”
Kailyn Helget is this year’s MCCA Staff Person of the Year. In her role as Learning Center Coordinator at the Rasmussen College Blaine campus, Helget supported students by helping them integrate studying into their busy lives. She also hired and trained the campuses’ student tutors, which provide peer-to-peer support residentially and online. Thanks to her hard work, student retention on campus has been above 87 percent the past two quarters. Helget has since been promoted to Academic Dean at the Rasmussen College Brooklyn Park/Maple Grove campus.
“I truly believe in the mission of Rasmussen College,” said Helget. “The support, services and classroom experience the College provides is outstanding. Being recognized for my efforts in higher education is truly an honor and provides me with a renewed sense of energy and enthusiasm for student success.”
