What's the difference between an RN and an LPN?

Both Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Registration Nurses (RNs) are considered "Nurses", and both are required to pass a licensing examination after completing an Accreditetd Nursing Program. The real differences between the two lie in the scope of practice, their responsibilities, the possibilities for advancement, and their salaries.

Are there any required entrance exams?

There are two exams in the Nursing program Admissions process.

Step Assessment — this initial online exam assesses your basic skill level in math, reading, and English. A minimum score in each area must be achieved to proceed on to the second exam.
HESI Test — this on-campus examination assesses a higher level of skills than the STEP exam. A minimum score of 80% must be achieved in order to be considered for admission to the Nursing program.

Do I need to be a genius at math to become a Nurse?

No, but you do need a solid understanding of basic math, and accuracy is extremely important. Math skills are used on the job to give accurate dosages of medicine, which is exceptionally important to the wellbeing of the patient.

Can I become a Nurse without completing Nursing practicums?

No, and you shouldn't want to. The purpose of participating in practicums is to teach you about Nursing in a real world setting and to provide you with vital hands-on experience you will need to begin your career. Nursing students at Rasmussen College are required to participate in three adult Nursing practicums.

Is Financial Aid available?

Yes, we have a Financial Aid program that will suit almost anyone's needs. Each campus has a knowledgeable Financial Aid Staff, who will work with you to clarify Scholarship opportunities, help with required paperwork, and make sure you get the maximum assistance for which you qualify.

Will Rasmussen College help me find a job as a Nurse?

Yes. We offer Career Services and Placement Assistance. As a student or alumni of Rasmussen College, you can contact any of our campuses, anytime, and receive help in finding a job, whenever you need one.
