Rasmussen College Lowers Tuition to Make College More Affordable for Students

Tuesday, January 15, 2013 — Colleges and universities have a responsibility to make obtaining a higher education affordable for students. That was the message today from Rasmussen College Chief Executive Officer, Tom Slagle, as he announced that the regionally accredited College would be reducing tuition up to 24 percent tuition for full-time students. The reduction, effective for current students in the fall quarter of 2013, lowers tuition for most Rasmussen College certificates and diplomas, and associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs to an affordable $299 per credit. Slagle, along with Rasmussen College Chief Academic Officer Trenda Boyum-Breen, made the announcement to a packed room of students, staff and faculty at the Rasmussen College Eagan campus.

"At Rasmussen College, we always have the end in mind, so today I’m excited to announce we are lowering tuition an average of 12 percent nationally, and we are going to continue to lock in tuition. Our hope is by lowering tuition we will motivate students to stay enrolled, keep focused on graduation and plan effectively. All of this will lead students to a better career."

— Tom Slagle,
Rasmussen College Chief Executive Officer

With tuition prices continuing to increase at colleges and universities nationwide, Rasmussen College is going against the trend. Over the last 11 years, public education institutions have increased tuition 42 percent. Rasmussen College is not only lowering tuition rates, but will continue to implement a tuition lock already in place, which guarantees continuously enrolled students will not see a tuition hike through graduation. The move will save students thousands of dollars and help decrease the amount of student debt upon graduation.

"Not only are we taking a significant step on reducing student debt and tuition, we are focused more than ever on delivering an excellent educational experience and continued investment in student support."

— Trenda Boyum-Breen,
Rasmussen College Chief Academic Officer
