Rasmussen College Blaine Campus Receives Medical Assisting Accreditation Status
The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools grants program initial accreditation through 2016
BLAINE, Minn. (September 14, 2012) – In recognition of the high academic standards put in place for both the Medical Assisting Associate’s degree and diploma programs, the Rasmussen College Blaine campus was recently granted programmatic accreditation through the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). ABHES is the only agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as both an institutional and specialized accreditor focusing on healthcare education and training. Accreditation by ABHES signifies that the program has met the eligibility criteria and evaluation standards of ABHES, which in turn allows students to sit for national certification exams to become a certified medical assistant after graduation.
“We are very proud and honored to be granted programmatic accreditation for our Medical Assisting programs by ABHES. With this recognition, our students now have more opportunities for career success and advancement after graduation,” said Lorrie Laurin, dean of the Rasmussen College School of Health Sciences. “Not only do medical assistants play a vital role in today’s exciting healthcare environment, but it is also an excellent building block for a more advanced career in medicine. These programs are designed to give students hands-on, real-world work experiences, as well as prepare them to become an important member of a healthcare team.”
As one of the fastest-growing fields in healthcare, demand for medical assistants is expected to grow by nearly 35 percent, and professionals in the field can earn upwards of $33,000, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The Rasmussen College Medical Assisting program combines practical and comprehensive coursework in anatomy, physiology, administering injections, performing EKGs and venipuncture with a 240-hour clinical externship. Courses can be completed through a combination of on-campus and online classes led by dedicated instructors with practical industry background and experience. As part of the program, students prepare for a national credentialing exam, and Rasmussen College offers a wide range of career search and placement assistance opportunities to help graduates secure a position in their chosen field and location.
“There is such a growing need for healthcare professionals in our community – especially as our population continues to grow – and these programs will provide the education and training that individuals need to go into great careers,” said Laurin.
ABHES' stated mission is to enhance the quality of education and training and promote institutional and programmatic accountability through systematic and consistent program evaluation. The key to ABHES’ mission is to assure the quality of the programs it accredits, and assist in the improvement of the programs. This quality determination is accomplished by rigorous and systematic evaluation based on valid standards.
