Rasmussen College Recognizes Computer Science Education Week

College launches new coding game to encourage youth to get involved in computer science

Minneapolis (November 30, 2017)–Rasmussen College, a regionally accredited private college, today announced its support for Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek), an annual program committed to inspiring K–12 students to take interest in computer science and coding at a young age.1 During the week, which takes place Dec. 4–10, kids across the globe participate in Hour of Code®, a movement that encourages schools, youth organizations and parents to dedicate an hour to coding—proving that it can be fun and approachable. This year, Rasmussen College launched a new coding maze game for kids called Code Road to help demystify computer science, support the industry’s initiatives and prepare the next generation of programmers to be successful in the digital economy.

“Our children will likely have jobs that never even existed in prior generations. Thus, the need for computer and technology education in our schools is greater than ever,” said Jennifer Ayotte, department dean for the Rasmussen College School of Technology. “As an institution of higher learning, we see the value in inspiring even our youngest learners to get involved in the many opportunities within computer science to help fill skills gaps in this growing and evolving field. Rasmussen College is pleased to offer this fun Code Road game as part of Computer Science Education Week, and we encourage teachers and parents to dedicate just one hour of their time to play the game with the children in their lives.”

New Game Helps Demystify Coding for Kids

Code Road is a fun and easy game that helps kids, and the young at heart, to understand how their favorite games are made, as well as experience firsthand that coding doesn’t have to be intimidating.

In the game, players will help direct our Super Student to graduation using the arrow keys to navigate her through the maze. With each move, RassyScript code will populate showcasing how programing languages work.
