Rasmussen College Expands Innovative Flex Choice Learning Option To Four Additional Associate's Degree Programs
Option that can save students up to $14,000 now available for students enrolling in Early Childhood Education, Information Technology Management, Paralegal and Graphic Design
Minneapolis (November 13, 2014)–Rasmussen College, a regionally accredited private college and Public Benefit Corporation, today announced the expansion of its innovative Flex Choice learning option to four additional associate’s degree programs with classes beginning in January 2015. Flex Choice—which combines faculty-led courses with self-paced, competency-based courses that are offered at no additional cost—is immediately available for qualified students enrolling in the following Associate’s degree programs: Early Childhood Education, Information Technology Management, Paralegal and Graphic Design. The Flex Choice option is designed to save students up to $14,000 on tuition and graduate up to six months sooner, as compared to a traditional Associate’s degree from Rasmussen College. Savings do vary by program.
“We are seeing great success with our Flex Choice option and believe strongly in self-paced, competency-based education as a way to make college more affordable, get skilled employees in the workforce faster and help fill jobs in high demand,” said Matt Petz, vice president of academic affairs at Rasmussen College. “We launched Flex Choice last spring with the Business Management Associate’s degree program knowing there would be demand to open the option to students outside of the School of Business. We are thrilled to roll out Flex Choice in fast-growing, highly employable fields. Both preschool teachers and paralegals are expected to see a 17 percent job growth by 2022 while computer-user support specialists will see a 20 percent job growth, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Graphic designers are expected to see a 7 percent job growth.”
Self-Paced, Competency-Based Courses Add Flexibility; Decrease Time and Cost of Earning a Degree
In the innovative Flex Choice learning option, students enrolled in at least two faculty-led courses can choose from a library of self-paced, competency-based courses at no additional cost. The interactive, self-paced courses allow students to demonstrate the valuable workforce skills most sought after by today’s employers, such as customer service, conflict resolution and digital communication. Students have the opportunity to practice what they’ve learned through role-playing scenarios that simulate everyday work experiences. Students can also move quickly through the courses and concepts they understand, or slow down and opt for support from academic coaches who are available to answer questions throughout their learning experience. Students receive credit for the course once they demonstrate they have mastered the skills and concepts.
