Minneapolis (August 11, 2015)–Rasmussen College President Dr. Trenda Boyum-Breen recently participated in a discussion at the White House on promoting innovation and quality in higher education. Dr. Boyum-Breen was among a select group of higher education industry leaders, including college presidents, education providers, thought leaders and accreditors, to be invited to attend the convening in Washington on July 30. The U.S. Department of Education brought the group together to discuss ways higher education institutions and non-accredited education providers can work together to extend access to students while ensuring quality and consumer protection.
“It was an honor to be invited to the White House convening and be among some of the nation’s most respected thought leaders in higher education as we discussed pertinent issues impacting today’s higher education landscape,” Dr. Boyum-Breen said. “I commend the White House for promoting access to higher education through innovation while ensuring quality and protecting students, particularly adult students who are looking to better their lives by seeking higher education in order to find relevant employment in today’s workforce. I encourage the White House and the Department of Education to continue to engage in these critical conversations so more students can have access to an affordable and quality higher education experience.”
Rasmussen College has been a leader in higher education innovation and quality for 115 years. Most recently, Rasmussen College was recognized nationally for developing and growing a competency-based education (CBE) learning model when it was accepted into the Competency-Based Education Network (C-BEN) in February. C-BEN focuses on addressing the challenges of designing, developing and scaling high-quality competency-based degree programs. The College was also recently selected to participate in the Breakthrough Models Academy through EDUCAUSE, a prominent international association of higher education institutions and organizations dedicated to developing the next generation of higher education leaders who are creating new, innovative learning models.
“Rasmussen College is committed to being on the cutting edge of innovation in higher education while ensuring our students are successful,” Boyum-Breen said. “Since launching Flex Choice®, the CBE learning model at Rasmussen College, in May 2014, the College has been focused on finding ways to be a key contributor to the national conversation around competency-based education. The White House convening is another example of how Rasmussen College is contributing its findings learnings and expertise around responsible innovation and student success.”
