Rasmussen College Redesigns Healthcare Career-Focused Programs to Help Fill Employment Gaps
College also reduces tuition for its Medical Assisting Diploma program by 35 percent
Minneapolis (August 27, 2015)–Rasmussen College, a regionally accredited private college and Public Benefit Corporation, today announced the launch of three newly redesigned healthcare career-focused degree programs: Healthcare Management Bachelor’s degree-completion program, Medical Assisting Diploma and the Medical Laboratory Technician Associate’s degree. These degree options are designed to prepare students to fill significant employment gaps in both the business and patient services sides of healthcare. The College also announced a tuition reduction of 35 percent for its Medical Assisting Diploma program for new students starting in October.
“Through our close partnerships with leading healthcare organizations, it is clear employers are in need of highly trained graduates ready to succeed in a dramatically changing healthcare landscape,” said Dr. Christian Wright, dean, Rasmussen College School of Health Sciences. “By redesigning these degree programs for both our School of Health Sciences and School of Business and reducing the price of our Medical Assisting Diploma program, we are able to better prepare students to succeed in a variety of healthcare roles, from leadership and business management jobs to clinical positions.”
Medical Assisting Diploma
With a projected job growth of 29 percent in the next 10 years and 26,990 annual job openings, medical assisting is one of the most in-demand healthcare fields across the country. Rasmussen College is excited to offer a newly redesigned and more affordable Medical Assisting Diploma program that can now be completed in as few as *12 months. To help make the program more accessible, Rasmussen College is also lowering tuition by 35 percent for new students starting in October.
The Medical Assisting Diploma programs at the Kansas City/Overland Park and Topeka campuses in Kansas; the Aurora/Naperville, Mokena/Tinley Park, Romeoville/Joliet and Rockford campuses in Illinois; the Fort Myers, Ocala, New Port Richey/West Pasco and Tampa/Brandon campuses in Florida; the Appleton, Green Bay, and Wausau campuses in Wisconsin; and the Blaine, Bloomington, Brooklyn Park/Maple Grove, Eagan, Lake Elmo/Woodbury, Mankato, and St. Cloud campuses in Minnesota are accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)—a nationally recognized higher education accreditation organization specializing in both institutional and programmatic accreditation of programs in the allied health field.
The program is offered through a blend of on-campus and online courses, and offers students real-world experiences in a hands-on externship. Students will gain a solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and pathology as well as basic concepts of pharmacology and psychology. Upon graduation, students will be prepared to take the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam. Students can also seamlessly transfer their Medical Assisting Diploma credits to earn a Health Sciences Associate’s degree with a specialization in medical assisting. Students in the state of Kansas may earn a Medical Assisting Diploma or Associate’s degree.
Medical Lab Technician Associate’s Degree
The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) Associate’s degree program at Rasmussen College prepares students to perform critical tests that inform physicians’ diagnoses of potentially life-threating diseases and illnesses. The newly redesigned program can now be completed in as few as 21 months. Students can also now take online self-paced courses through the Flex Choice® option at no additional cost, providing them with a more flexible schedule and helping them save money. Students that complete the MLT Associate’s degree can apply credits toward the Health & Wellness Bachelor’s degree program at Rasmussen College.
Healthcare Management Bachelor’s Degree-Completion Program
The Healthcare Management Bachelor’s degree-completion program, offered entirely online through the School of Business, prepares students for a career in health services management. Through hands-on experience and scenario-based simulations, students will be ready to manage healthcare departments in the areas of budgeting, policy implementation and personnel decisions. According to the Bureau of Labor Statics, medical and health service managers have a projected job growth of 23 percent with 73,300 job openings between 2012 and 2022.
“Our healthcare management program was created for students and job-seekers who have minds for business and hearts for healthcare,” said Brooks Doherty, dean of the Schools of Business and General Education at Rasmussen College. “This program prepares our students to join leading healthcare organizations and immediately play a critical role in shaping the future of healthcare with knowledge in leadership, analytics and strategic decision-making.”
The Bachelor’s degree-completion program is also available with Flex Choice, allowing students to take online self-paced courses alongside their faculty-led courses at no additional cost and complete their degree in as few as 18 months.
