Our Law Enforcement Academic Certificate curriculum is designed to meet the academic component of the Professional Peace Officer Education (PPOE) program approved by the MN POST Board with an advanced curriculum that focuses on the practical application of law enforcement principles, from arrest and the courts to the corrections system. Our instructors are dedicated to working with you one-on-one to develop you into a high-caliber law enforcement professional.

The law enforcement curriculum includes courses in domestic violence, ethics, serving special populations, juvenile justice and Minnesota traffic and criminal code.

We also offer a Law Enforcement Skills Certificate, which can be completed in as few as 6 months, to help you gain the physical skills and training necessary to obtain your Minnesota police officer licensure.*

Our Law Enforcement program is designed to help you gain relevant skills employers seek, including:

  • Minnesota Police Officer Licensure Preparation

    Fulfill the academic and career-ready skills required for the Minnesota police officer licensure.

  • Psychology and Criminal Justice Insight

    Study the psychology of the criminal mind and participate in courtroom scenarios to gain an understanding of the legal system.

  • Professional Communication

    Learn advanced writing and human interaction skills to help you succeed in your communication and reporting duties.

  • Criminal Investigation

    Examine the investigation processes for crime scenes and crashes, including evidence collection, handling, processing and documentation.

Professional Peace Officer Education (PPOE): This program meets standards established by the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (MN POST) for persons who seek employment in Minnesota as a peace officer. Graduates of this program may need to successfully complete additional academic coursework, training, practical/skills, and fitness standards before becoming eligible to sit for the MN Peace Officer Licensing Exam. Some of this training cannot be completed online.

This program is not aligned to the standards of any professional licensing body other than the MN POST, and is not intended to satisfy professional licensure requirements of any professional licensing agency in any other state.

Program Entry Requirements

In addition to meeting all other admissions requirements, applicants to this program must successfully complete and pass a criminal background check and must also submit to a Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension background check.

Admission into the Law Enforcement Academic Certificate program requires applicants to have earned an Associate's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
