Nursing Assistant Training Acknowledgments

Our non-credit Nursing Assistant training prepares individuals to gain healthcare skills, knowledge and confidence to work efficiently and safely as a nursing assistant/nurse aide. Taught by experienced and skilled nurse faculty, our Nursing Assistant training is state approved in Illinois and Minnesota and prepares learners to sit for the state competency exam.

  • CNA training at the Romeoville, IL, campus starts on October 7, 2020.
  • CNA training at the Eagan, MN, campus starts on July 9, 2020, and October 8, 2020.

Nursing Assistant Training Registration Acceptance Requirements

The following must be true or completed prior to starting the Rasmussen College Nursing Assistant training.

  • Learner will be asked to sign a Registration Agreement as part of their registration process.
  • Learner must be eighteen (18) years of age or older, have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent, and cannot be a resident of California, Connecticut, Rhode Island or New York.
  • Learner must pass a background check through the Minnesota Department of Human Services or Illinois Department of Human Services.
  • Learner must submit documentation of vaccination or proof of immunity by titer for hepatitis B.
  • Learner must submit documentation of vaccination for influenza.
  • Learner must submit documentation of tuberculosis testing and physical health examination.
  • Learner must submit acknowledgment of receipt and understanding of the Nursing Assistant Training Handbook.
  • Learner must pay the $1,050 training fee in IL or $1,250 training fee in MN. This fee is charged, due and payable after the learner has successfully completed the registration requirements and before the start date.

Nursing Assistant Training Essential Functions

Learners must have the essential skills and knowledge to function in a broad variety of healthcare settings. Essential functions are those processes, procedures or behaviors that nursing assistants/nurse aides must perform in the ordinary course of their duties. Essential job functions are non-academic qualities that employees must possess in order to be successful in the field. Learners in the Nursing Assistant training must carry out several essential functions in order to safeguard patients, fellow learners, instructors and the general public. These essential functions are also necessary in order for the learner to successfully complete this training.

These essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Critical Thinking
    • The learner must able to have clinical judgment to provide safe, quality patient care; ability to acquire, assimilate, integrate and apply information; and ability to problem solve.
  • Interpersonal
    • The learner must be able to recognize and accept responsibility for their own mistakes and behavior, without making excuses or blaming others.
    • The learner must demonstrate acceptance of differences of race and culture.
    • The learner must be able to engage in actions that support team workmanship and respond to corrections and criticism without being quarrelsome or defensive.
  • Communication
    • The learner must be able to communicate fluently in English by written and oral and/or alternate means. This includes the ability to successfully receive and transmit information.
    • The learner must be able to read and follow instructions and ask for clarification, if necessary.
  • Sensory
    • The learner must be able to perform close and distant visual activities, involving objects, persons and paperwork, as well as discriminate depth and color perception.
    • The learner must be able to perform a patient assessment through visualization, direct and indirect auscultation, and detection of odors, palpation and percussion.
    • The learner must be able to discriminate between sharp/dull and hot/cold when using hands.
    • The learner must be able to respond and react immediately to auditory requests and instructions, monitor equipment and perform auditory auscultation without auditory impediments.
  • Motor Skills
    • The learner must demonstrate dexterity and range of motion conducive to assisting patients and manipulating equipment without threatening harm or violating safety protocols.
  • Mobility
    • The learner must be able to engage in and sustain physical activity that may require sitting, standing or walking for extended periods of time.
    • The learner must be able to lift and transfer patients up to six inches from a stooped position, then push or pull the patient up to three feet. In addition, the learner must be able to lift and transfer patients from a stooped to an upright position to accomplish bed-to-chair and chair-to-bed transfers.
    • The learner must be able to physically apply up to 10 lbs. of pressure to bleeding sites or in performing CPR.
    • The learner must be able to physically perform for up to a 12-hour clinical experience.
  • Behavioral
    • The learner must be able to accurately perform duties in a stressful environment. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying and responding to emergency and non-routine situations.
  • Cognitive
    • The learner must be able to use previous theory content/skills to enhance learning.
    • The learner must be able to comprehend written and verbal information.
    • The learner must be able to apply previous content/skills in new situations.
    • The learner must be able to organize and synthesize facts and concepts.
  • Ethical
    • The learner must be able to uphold honesty and personal integrity in all campus/clinical activities and to function as a patient advocate when planning and implementing nursing care.

Fees (Subject to Change)

Total fee payable to Rasmussen College for this training is $1,050 for IL and $1,250 for MN. Each learner is responsible for additional expenses as shown below.

Applicant/Learner Fee Responsibilities

The learner is responsible for covering the following fees, which are not included in the training fee and book fee described above:

  • Fingerprints, if applicable
  • Physical exam
  • All vaccinations
  • Scrubs and white closed-toe shoes and socks
  • State Competency Exam, upon successful completion of Nursing Assistant training
  • Transcript of completed training may be ordered through the National Student Clearinghouse

Time & Location (Subject to Change)

The Nursing Assistant training is currently offered at our Romeoville, IL, and Eagan, MN, campuses. On-campus training varies in length based on state requirements and allows learners to complete the training as quickly as possible.

Other Important Information

  • This training is not eligible for financial aid and is not for college credit.
  • There are limited spots available in each Nursing Assistant training. Individuals who complete all acceptance requirements will be registered on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you do meet all acceptance requirements and the training is already full, you have the option to select the next available Nursing Assistant training date.
  • Certification – To become a certified nursing assistant/nurse aide, individuals should contact their state regulatory agency to determine the specific requirements needed for certification.
