Earn an In-demand Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree

If you’re a high school graduate who has earned college credit from an accredited 2- or 4-year college or university, you can take advantage of our seamless transfer policies and earn an in-demand degree that can help you start your career or advance your skills.

Transferring your credits doesn’t need to be difficult. At Rasmussen College, we understand that you:

  • Want to complete your degree as quickly as possible
  • Don’t want to retake courses you’ve already taken
  • Want to be recognized for your previous learning experience
  • Don’t want to guess as to how your credits will transfer

For those reasons, our transfer specialists conduct a thorough, yet efficient, transcript evaluation of your previous transcripts to maximize your credit transfer and minimize your time to graduation.

We have several transfer policies, and each is designed to maximize your credit transfer.  Whether you will be earning an Associate’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree, you are eligible to take advantage of:

  • Transferring up to 67% of the credits required to complete your degree (1)
  • Credits accepted from both regionally and nationally accredited instituions
  • Course-by-course evaluation of all courses with a grade of C or higher
  • No expiration of your previously-earned general education and certain degree-specific  credits (2)
  • Credit through prior learning, work, and military experience
    • Credit by examination, which gives you an opportunity to test out of courses where you can demonstrate specific knowledge. These tests are offered free of charge to Rasmussen College students. (3)
    • Complete advanced placement (AP) exams with a score of 3 or higher
    • Successfully complete college exams (e.g., CLEP, DSST, DANTES, etc.)
    • Successfully submit course waivers for approval from Rasmussen College (4)
    • Submit credits transcribed by the American Council of Education (ACE)
    • Submit a military transcript

I Want to Earn a Bachelor’s Degree

As an incoming Bachelor’s degree transfer student, you may be eligible to take advantage of the transfer policies listed above, as well as the following transfer policies:

  • I’m transferring to Rasmussen College with a conferred degree
    • Transfer your entire Associate’s degree and enter at junior status if you have an Associate’s degree and are seeking a Bachelor’s degree in a similar field—this also means you will not have to complete any pre-requisites for most degrees (5)
    • Transfer all general education courses from your previously-earned Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, regardless of course of study (6)
    • Transfer up to 41 unrestricted lower division degree-specific credits (7)

I Want to Earn an Associate’s Degree

As an incoming Associate’s degree transfer student, you may be eligible to take advantage of the following transfer policies:

  • Transfer up to 67% of the credits required to complete your degree (1)
  • Course-by-course evaluation of all courses with a grade of C or higher
  • No expiration of your previously-earned general education and certain degree-specific credits (2)
  • Credit through prior learning, work, and military experience
    • Credit by examination, which gives you an opportunity to test out of courses where you can demonstrate specific knowledge. These tests are offered free of charge to Rasmussen College students. (3)
    • Complete advanced placement (AP) exams and achieve a score of 3 or higher

Complete Your Degree Plan

Transferring to Rasmussen College is seamless:

  1. Contact a program manager to discuss your transfer questions.
  2. Provide your official or unofficial transcripts to Rasmussen College and receive an estimate of your transfer credits.*
  3. Complete a Rasmussen College application.
  4. Request your official transcripts from your previous college (if you haven’t already provided them to Rasmussen College) to be submitted to Rasmussen College.
  5. Receive your official credit transfer evaluation report from Rasmussen College and work with your student advisor to create your degree plan.*

Based on Your Degree, You may Qualify for Other Transfer Policies

As an incoming transfer student interested in one of our specialized degrees, we will perform a course-by-course evaluation of your courses with a grade of C or higher, and you may be eligible to take advantage of the following transfer policies:

  • RN to BSN: If you have an unencumbered registered nurse (RN) license and successfully completed an Associate’s degree, you will receive a block transfer of credits (113)
  • Surgical Technologist: If you graduated from a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited surgical technology Diploma or Certificate program and hold CST certification, you will receive a block transfer of 60 credits (9)
  • Mobility Practical Nursing: If you have completed a practical nursing program and hold a current MN LPN license, you will receive a block transfer of credit toward your professional nursing degree and your registered nurse credential (10)

Notes

(1) Students must complete 33% of their program requirements at Rasmussen College, and no more than 67% may be completed via transfer credits, course waivers, credit by examination, or other means. Students in the Medical Assisting, Medical Laboratory Technician, and Associate’s Nursing programs must complete at least 50% of their program requirements at Rasmussen College, and no more than 50% may be completed via transfer credits, course waivers, credit by examinations, or other means. Students eligible and approved for the Surgical Technologist AAS Completer Block Transfer must only complete 33% of their program requirements at Rasmussen College, and no more than 67% may be completed via transfer credits, course waivers, credit by examination, or other means.

(2) Time limits are imposed on some programs and courses, specifically in the Schools of Technology & Design, Nursing, and Health Sciences.

(3) A credit by examination may be taken only once for each course. Some courses in the School of Health Sciences and Nursing are not available for credit by examination.
