Rasmussen College Hosts Event To Help Veterans Transition To Civilian Career

The event will provide veterans an opportunity to meet with their peers and get advice about re-entering the workforce from experts in veteran recruiting and the military transition process. They will learn what to expect in the civilian job market and how to best translate their military experience into a new career.

“Many of our soldiers give up their jobs and careers to protect the rights of others, often in a foreign land, while others put off starting a civilian career to join the military,” said Patty Sagert, campus director of the Rasmussen College Blaine campus. “Once they return, some soldiers find themselves lost and unsure on how to make the next transition into a new career. Rasmussen College recognized this concern, and through our partnership with Volt Military Heroes Program, we hope to provide some additional resources to help our American heroes.”

Rep. John Kriesel knows this struggle first hand. Kriesel enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard on his 17^th birthday, and he served on a NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. Later, he volunteered for a deployment in Iraq. In 2006, the Humvee he was riding in struck a roadside bomb, and his injuries were so severe that he had to have both legs amputated. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Purple Heart, and Bronze Star. 

After ten years of serving our country, Kriesel returned home and had to transition to not only civilian life, but to life as an amputee. He went on to serve in the Minnesota House of Representatives and has now been appointed to serve in a new role providing veterans and their families with benefit counseling, referrals and assistance in a variety of programs
