Rasmussen College Partners with Romeoville Fire Academy to Create World Class, Innovative Fire Science Degree Program
College will host kickoff event on September 12 at Village of Romeoville Fire Station 3
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (September 7, 2012) – There is great demand for educated, experienced leaders in our nation’s firehouses, and now the Rasmussen College School of Justice Studies is responding to that need with a new degree program giving students the highest level of preparation. Rasmussen College now has an exclusive partnership with the Romeoville Fire Academy to provide the skill set needed for those seeking a Fire Science career. As part of this specialized Associate’s degree program, students get real-life, field skills training in facilities designed to simulate real-world fire scenarios. Students will also learn the leadership and management skills to further their career in the fire services industry.
Rasmussen College and the Romeoville Fire Academy will host a kickoff event for the new Fire Science degree program on September 12, 2012. The event will be held from 11:00 a.m. to noon at the Village of Romeoville Fire Station 3 located at 698 North Birch Lane, Romeoville, Ill. 60446. The Village of Romeoville Mayor, John D. Novak, along with Village of Romeoville Fire Department Chief, Kent Adams, are among those scheduled to speak at the event.
In a time when many industries are cutting positions, fire science careers remain one of the fastest growing in the U.S. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics the number of firefighters, first line supervisors, fire inspectors and investigators are expected to grow 9 percent in the next eight years.
“Our new Fire Science degree program is designed for both the seasoned firefighter looking to move up, or someone wanting to launch their career,” said Matt Petz, Senior Dean, School of Justice Studies. “Our flexible courses both on-site and online make it easy for those with a busy schedule to graduate.”
The Fire Science Associate’s degree program is available at all Rasmussen College Illinois campuses and can be earned in just six months. Graduates earn their Fire Officer 1 and Fire Officer 2 certifications. They also complete the academic requirements to become Illinois Fire Services Instructors. Students are encouraged to take advantage of our tuition reimbursements and American Heroes Grant.
