Rasmussen College Partners With Tax Materials Inc. to Offer Training Courses for Tax Professionals
Courses will help tax professionals meet new IRS regulations regarding annual continuing education requirements
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Aug. 29, 2012) – Rasmussen College has partnered with leading tax materials provider, Tax Materials Inc. (TMI) to deliver continuing education courses for tax professionals in the Twin Cities area. Prior to 2011, tax preparers were unregulated and instances of incorrect or fraudulent tax returns were on the rise. The new courses will meet the continuing education requirements established by the IRS for tax preparers. Courses will initially be offered at the Rasmussen College Brooklyn Park/Maple Grove campus in Minnesota.
“As a leader in higher education, our mission at Rasmussen College is to provide educational solutions to our communities, and these solutions often extend beyond the typical classroom setting,” said Jeff Andrews, Director of Business Development at Rasmussen College. “We are excited to partner with TMI, who is such an influential company in the tax industry, and develop a customized solution to meet a critical business need. This is a great example of thinking outside the structure of traditional academics to create community-focused education – it’s what makes us different at Rasmussen.”
Tax Materials Inc. is a provider of education and training for tax professionals across the country. TMI publishes the industry leading tax reference guide, The Taxbook, utilized by the majority of tax preparation firms in the U.S. including Jackson Hewitt, H&R Block, and more.
Recent changes in IRS regulations have brought new education requirements for the tax preparation industry. This new requirement was implemented with the goal to reduce tax fraud, and to help ensure that proper standards were in place for all tax professionals. Tax professionals who are not Enrolled Agents, CPAs, or attorneys are now required to obtain 15 hours of qualified continuing education per year, consisting of 10 hours of federal tax law topics, three hours of federal tax law updates, and two hours of ethics or professional conduct.
With over 700,000 individuals now required to meet these requirements, the need for training and course offerings is significant. The new course offerings at Rasmussen College help to complete this continuing education requirement and prepare for the exam. Continuing education for the 2012 tax year must be completed no later than December 31, 2012.
“This partnership offers unique solutions for tax preparers to help them comply with continuing professional education requirements,” said Joe Meyer, Senior Vice President of Tax Materials, Inc. “Working with an organization the stature of Rasmussen College is a great opportunity to help provide the best possible educational choices for tax professionals at all levels.”
One-day CPE sessions are offered at the Rasmussen College Brooklyn Park/Maple Grove campus for tax professionals, including EAs, CPAs, and RTRPs. The classes provide attendees with critical, real-world scenarios to help them develop the skills needed to succeed in their field while earning the necessary CPE/CE credits.
