Rasmussen College Honors Its First Wausau School Of Nursing Graduates In Traditional Pinning Ceremony
Ten School of Nursing graduates earn Professional Nursing Associate’s degree
WAUSAU, Wisc. (June 20, 2013) – The Rasmussen College Wausau campus is excited to honor its first School of Nursing graduates in a traditional pinning ceremony on Friday, June 21, 2013. The pinning ceremony, which can be traced all the way back to the Crusades of the 12th century, is the symbolic welcoming of new nurses into the nursing profession. It’s often more meaningful than the graduation ceremony itself.
"The pinning ceremony is viewed as a rite of passage for nursing students – the moment they officially become a nurse,” said Diana Gruman, dean of nursing at the Rasmussen College Wausau campus. “Our graduates have worked extremely hard and deserve the greatest respect and honor as they start their journey in the nursing profession.”
The ten Professional Nursing Associate’s degree graduates are entering a profession that continues to flourish nationwide. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects registered nurse (RN) employment will grow 26 percent between 2010 and 2020. In the past six months, there have been more than 70 job openings for RNs in the Wausau metropolitan area. So far, three Rasmussen College nursing graduates have accepted job offers as a registered nurse.
“Right now, there is a big demand for nurses in both long-term care facilities and acute care hospitals,” said Gruman. “RNs can also work in jails, clinics, schools or for various community organizations like summer camps. Nurses really are everywhere.”
Each nursing graduate will receive a pin representing the Rasmussen College School of Nursing. The pinning ceremony also includes a lamp lighting, which symbolizes the care and devotion each nurse administers to the sick and injured. Administration and faculty from the College will be present at the ceremony, as well as family and friends. The pinning ceremony starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Rasmussen College Wausau campus, which is located at 1101 Westwood Drive, Wausau, WI 54401.
