Rasmussen College To Host Nationwide Community Career Fair At No Cost
Bi-annual events across 20 locations designed to help community members, students and graduates take the next step in their career
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (February 18, 2014)–As the national job market continues to improve, Rasmussen College, a regionally accredited private college, is helping community members, students, and graduates take the next step in their careers by hosting a free nationwide Community Career Fair. The bi-annual event is set for Feb. 24-28, 2014 at 20 Rasmussen College campus locations across the country. The career fair is designed to help job seekers connect with employers and those currently in the workforce advance their careers. In addition to networking opportunities with local employers, those attending Rasmussen College’s Community Career Fair will also have access to panel discussions from human resources experts, professional dress consultations, LinkedIn training, resume reviews and mock interviews.
“Now, more than ever it’s critical for individuals to think of their career as a lifelong process,” said Tamryn Hennessy, vice president career services and public benefit initiatives at Rasmussen College. “Long-term, full-time employment is no longer a guarantee so it is important for job seekers to stay on top of their interviewing skills and keep LinkedIn profiles and resumes up to date, while continuously networking with employers. At Rasmussen College, we want anyone looking to take that next step in their career to have the knowledge and resources to do so, and our Community Career Fair will help individuals prepare for that.”
The national unemployment rate has continued to decline over the past several months, but the underemployment rate, which represents those working part-time or beneath their skill set, remains high at around 18.6 percent. Economists predict there will be better-quality, higher-paying jobs in 2014, but due to millions still out of work, there will be a lot of competition for these openings. To help students, graduates and community members prepare for its career fair and stand out as a qualified candidate, Rasmussen College is challenging participates to submit a resume and cover letter ahead of time through its Career Challenge. Participants can even record a mock interview, submit it and have it reviewed by career services experts before they step in front of potential employers. Like the career fair, the career challenge is free and open to the general public.
“As a public benefit corporation, Rasmussen College is committed to making the communities in which we serve a better place to live, grow and learn,” said Hennessy. “We believe a strong workforce builds a strong community. That’s why we open our bi-annual career fairs and job placement expertise to all community members at no cost. This year’s fair really has something for everyone looking to take the next step in their career.”
