Rasmussen College Launches Radiologic Technology Program at Campuses in Minneapolis and Tampa Bay Areas

Minneapolis (May 19, 2016)—Rasmussen College, a regionally accredited private college, today announced the launch of a Radiologic Technology Associate’s degree program at its Lake Elmo/Woodbury, Minn., and Land O’ Lakes/East Pasco, Fla., campuses. The flexible, hands-on program is designed to help students start their career as a radiologic technologist in as few as 24 months.* Students will study anatomy, physiology, medical imaging and radiation safety while developing in-demand skills, including accurate imaging, operation of radiographic equipment and patient care and positioning. Upon graduation, students will be prepared to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification exam — a certification that is preferred by many employers. Classes begin at both the Lake Elmo/Woodbury and Land O’ Lakes/East Pasco campuses in October.

“Radiologic technologists are highly sought-after healthcare professionals,” said Dr. Christian Wright, department dean for Health Sciences at Rasmussen College. “They work with some of the most innovative equipment in the medical field to complete diagnostic imaging, including X-rays, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and fluoroscopy, to help radiologists and doctors diagnose and treat medical problems. The Rasmussen College Radiologic Technology degree program focuses on patient care and radiation safety and represents a mix of flexible online courses, hands-on coursework in on-campus simulation labs and practicums in diverse clinical settings.”

Radiologic Technologists in Demand

Both Minnesota and Florida have an increasing need for highly trained radiologic technologists. According to labor analytics firm Burning Glass, there were more than 650 job postings for radiologic technologists over the past year in Minnesota and more than 2,200 job postings in Florida. Among the 650 job postings in Minnesota, more than half were in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

“Aging baby boomers are experiencing more medical issues that require radiologic imaging, causing an increased demand for radiologic technologists across hospitals, doctor’s offices, walk-in clinics and imaging centers,” Wright said. “A career as a radiologic technologist can prove a very attractive option for those with a mix of strong technical and people skills as well as a passion for helping others.”

The Rasmussen College Radiologic Technology Associate’s degree program is also offered with Flex Choice^®, helping students save time and money. The learning option allows students to take some of their general education courses in a self-paced format alongside their traditional courses.
