Bloomington, Minn. (May 13, 2011) – Rasmussen College announced today it will host an Open House at its Bloomington, MN college campus from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24 to introduce prospective students interested in a career in law enforcement, social services, paralegal and more to the college’s Criminal Justice degree program. The event, which is free and open to the public, will give visitors an opportunity to hear first-hand from faculty and students about their experiences and accomplishments in the Rasmussen program. The Bloomington campus is located just south of Minneapolis off I-494 and France Avenue on 78th Street.
As part of the program, current Rasmussen College student Tracy Newman will share her poignant personal experience and motivation behind her interest in a career in the criminal justice field. As the mother of a child with mental illness, Newman has struggled with the criminal justice system to find the help her son needed to overcome obstacles.
“Tracy came to us wanting to become a voice for those who could not fully represent themselves in the system,” said Jeff Brosz, Bloomington Campus Director. “She has since become very active in pursuing this goal and has become quite an inspiration to others as an outstanding example of how students can fully leverage the resources we provide here at Rasmussen to achieve their career and personal goals.”
Newman currently serves on the local board of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and recently testified before the Minnesota House of Representatives on behalf of NAMI. She has also been accepted into the Guardian ad Litem program with Hennepin County Courts, where she works as a volunteer advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children.
During the open house, Newman, other students and Rasmussen Criminal Justice degree program faculty will be on hand to speak one-on-one with prospective students about the College’s curriculum and career opportunities available in this growing and in-demand field.
