What is the history of the Blaine campus?

Since 1900, Rasmussen College has been building community through education. From first opening its doors as the Rasmussen Practical School of Business in Stillwater, Minnesota, Rasmussen College has grown to 22 campuses. The College now offers dozens of programs across its Schools of Business, Design, Education, Health Sciences, Justice Studies, Nursing and Technology.

As the College has continued to grow over the years, the Blaine campus was opened in the spring of 2010 with its first cohort of students starting that May.

“I’ve been here since the first shovel of dirt and have seen the campus grow from just 13 students to hundreds,” recalls Sagert.

Where is the Blaine campus located?

The Blaine campus is less than 20 miles north of Minneapolis and conveniently located off interstate 35W and 95th Avenue NE; the intersection is widely recognized as it is the primary road leading to the National Sports Center in Blaine. Easy to navigate to as part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area, the campus also has ample parking for students and visitors in its private parking lot.

What programs are offered at the Blaine campus?

The Blaine campus offers the following on-campus programs in the School of Health Sciences and the School of Nursing:

School of Health Sciences

  • Medical Assisting Diploma; Rasmussen College’s Medical Assisting Diploma program at the Blaine campus is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).1

    School of Nursing

  • Professional Nursing (ADN); Rasmussen College’s Professional Nursing Associate’s degree program in Blaine, Minnesota is a candidate for accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).2

Students can also enroll in any of Rasmussen College’s online programs from the Schools of Business, Justice Studies, Health Sciences, Technology, Design and Education through the Blaine campus and have access to on-campus support.

What resources and support services are offered at the Blaine campus?

The Blaine campus features plenty of study space; students often gather and collaborate in the Student Commons, and those who are looking for a quieter study space opt for the Learning Commons. Blaine also has computer labs available to both students enrolled in on-campus and online programs, alike.

Aside from the common areas, Blaine also has several labs for students, including a medical assisting lab and a nursing lab complete with advanced simulation technology.

Blaine has a unique partnership with The African Nurses Network (TANN), and nursing students benefit from the tutoring services of their nurses. The nurse tutors typically help students prepare for their mock head-to-toe patient assessments.

Additional tutoring support, Career Services and Library and Learning Services are offered online and are available to all students.

How is the Blaine campus involved in the local community?

In general, Blaine is a very connected, collaborative community and there’s a connection to almost everything in the area. Blaine has partnerships with several nonprofit organizations in the community, including Stepping Stone Emergency Housing, an organization that provides shelter for homeless adults and youth in Anoka County. Additionally, the subject matter experts at TANN host forums for the nursing students twice per quarter, sharing about different topics and themes within the nursing field.

“I really appreciate the sense of community that we have here. Not just in the greater community, but here at the Blaine campus, too. I learn something every day in my role from our community of learners,” Sagert says. “Seeing the students experience success, sometimes for the very first time academically, is so rewarding.”

    • Looking for more? El Loro Lexington, Raising Cane’s, Noodles & Company, Annie’s Wok, Bistro La Roux, The Tavern Grill and Chili’s are all less than a five mile drive from campus.
  • Looking for a study spot? Here are some of the students’ favorites:
    • On campus, students love to use the student lounge to study. The fireplace in the area makes it especially great for students looking for a warm area to hunker down during a cold Minnesota winter.
    • There are several coffee shops nearby, including Starbucks, Dunn Brothers and Caribou Coffee. If you’re looking for a smaller, more local option, try Farmer Brothers Coffee.
  • Need some fresh air? Bunker Hills Regional Park in Anoka is just over ten miles northwest of campus and has 1,600 acres of space for activities including biking, archery, camping, disc golf, hiking, dog park, golf, picnic pavilions and a playground for your little ones.

It’s very rewarding,” Sagert says.
