Rasmussen College Partners With Minnesota Twins And Minnesota Literacy Council To Raise Awareness And Advocacy For Education
The Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Literacy Council, And Rasmussen College Will Partner To Raise Advocacy And Awareness For Literacy Needs In Twin Cities Area
MINNEAPOLIS (May 19, 2011) – Rasmussen College is proud to announce that it will partner with the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Literacy Council during the 2011 baseball season to promote advocacy and awareness for literacy needs in the Twin Cities area.
According to the National Adult Literacy Survey, 6 percent of Minnesota’s adult population does not possess basic prose literacy skills and up to 20 percent lack the skills needed to understand medicine labels or fill out a job application accurately.
The Minnesota Literacy Council believes all Minnesotans deserve the opportunity to be successful students, employees, family members and citizens. Through English, GED and computer classes for adults, enrichment and tutoring for teens and literacy-rich preschools and reading programs for children, the literacy council reaches people of all ages and backgrounds all across the state.
Rasmussen College has been a sponsor of the Minnesota Twins since 2008, and it will share its tabling space at Target Field with the MLC this year in order to support the fight for literacy.
“As an institution of higher learning, we categorically support the mission of the Minnesota Literacy Council to promote learning and achievement through literacy,” President of Rasmussen College Kristi Waite said. “We are honored to support this organization and give them visibility to a massive audience, like Twins fans, to whom they can spread the word about literacy.”
Rasmussen College will also present a donation to the MLC on the field during the Twins pre-game show on August 22, 2011.
“The literacy council has been a proud partner with Rasmussen College for a number of years,” said MLC Executive Director Eric Nesheim. “We share the same goal of educating Minnesotans so they can become active participants in our communities and in the workforce.”
