Rasmussen College Recognizes National Cyber Security Awareness Month

College to host cyber security awareness events and help educate community on social media security

Minneapolis (October 11, 2017)–Rasmussen College, a regionally accredited1 private college, today announced two upcoming events as well as the launch of a new animated infographic on social media security in recognition of National Cyber Security Awareness Month. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s annual campaign is designed to raise awareness about the importance of cyber security as well as provide the public with tools and resources needed to be safe online. This year, Rasmussen College will host two cyber security awareness events–the first on Tue., Oct. 24 in the Twin Cities and the second on Wed., Oct. 25 in Tampa to help students, staff and community members learn how to protect their digital identity from cyber-crime. Both events are free and open to the public.

“In today’s increasingly online world, we are reminded, almost daily, that we must be attentive to our personal information. And while we can’t fully escape cyber criminals, we can educate ourselves about their ways and work to make their jobs more difficult,” said Jennifer Ayotte, department dean for the Rasmussen College School of Technology. “As a College, we not only equip our School of Technology students with the knowledge needed to protect priceless information in their professional lives but we’re also committed to educating our entire student population as well as the communities we serve so that they don’t feel powerless against cyber-crimes. There are steps we can and should take to protect ourselves and our loved ones, which is why Rasmussen College is pleased to offer these free events and resources as part of National Cyber Security Awareness Month.”

Twin Cities Cyber Security Awareness Event

On Tue., Oct. 24, Rasmussen College is pleased to host Jake DeWoskin, information security director at Computer Integration Technologies, as he presents, “The Collision of Cyber Security and Your Digital Identity.” The event starts at 6:00 p.m. local time at the Rasmussen College Bloomington campus, located at 4400 West 78th Street, 6th Floor.

During the presentation, attendees will learn:

  • How online activity increasingly influences your digital identity.
  • How capitalism, terrorism and geo-politics has driven cyber-crime.
  • How cyber-criminals today are using your personal information and what you can do to protect yourself.
  • What the next generation of cyber security professionals look like.

Rasmussen College will also host a Facebook Live of the presentation for those that cannot attend in person. Details can be found on the Rasmussen College–School of Technology Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/rasmussentechnology/.
