Local College Chosen As Site For YMCA-Led National College Goal Sunday Event
YMCA to Host Free College Goal Sunday Event for College-Bound Students at Rasmussen College Fort Myers
FORT MYERS, Fla., (February 14, 2011) – Rasmussen College Fort Myers has been chosen as an official host site for College Goal Sunday, an educational holiday created by the YMCA to help college-bound students learn about financial aid programs and complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) paperwork, on Sun., Feb. 20, 2–5 p.m. All college-bound students from the Fort Myers region, regardless of their choice college, are invited to attend and receive assistance from on-site professionals.
“Rasmussen College is committed to making college more attainable and accessible to more people,” Rasmussen College Fort Myers Campus Director Eric Whitehouse said. “We are honored to open our doors and to provide a venue for those thinking about college to seek assistance with the financial aid process. We encourage all students, regardless of which colleges they are considering, and their parents to join us in learning about available financial aid opportunities and the correct way to fill out paperwork.”
To encourage students to learn about financial aid opportunities as part of College Goal Sunday, two student attendees will each receive a $250 scholarship from event organizers. In addition, Rasmussen College will award one $1,000 scholarship. Any student who completes his or her FAFSA forms during College Goal Sunday and registers to begin classes at Rasmussen College Fort Myers before November 2011 is eligible.
Area students interested in attending College Goal Sunday at Rasmussen College in Fort Myers should arrive prepared with all pertinent materials, including their latest tax information, social security cards, driver’s licenses, W-2 forms, and any questions they have about the financial aid process.
