Rasmussen College Brooklyn Park/Maple Grove Campus Receives Merit Award from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
Students achieve 100 percent pass rate on national surgical technologist exam
Brooklyn Park, Minn. (Dec. 8, 2016)—Rasmussen College, a regionally accredited private college, is proud to announce its Brooklyn Park/Maple Grove, Minn. campus recently received the annual merit award from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) for achieving a 100 percent pass rate1 on the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination. According to the NBSTSA, graduates obtaining national certification as a CST demonstrate understanding of the basic competencies for safe patient care in the operating room. The CST is recognized in the healthcare community as an important and highly valued credential for surgical technologists. The CST is also required for employment within many local, state and national health organizations. This is the fourth straight year the Rasmussen College Brooklyn Park/Maple Grove campus has achieved a 100 percent pass rate on the CST exam.

About the Rasmussen College Surgical Technologist Program
Surgical technologists are an integral part of the surgical care team, helping prep for and assisting during a surgery. The Rasmussen College Surgical Technologist Associate’s degree program in Brooklyn Park/Maple Grove, which is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP),2 provides hands-on learning in a fully equipped and industry-standard simulated surgical suite so that students can learn common procedures and technology used in the operating room as well as tactics for handling high-pressure situations. Critical skills developed in the surgical suite include proper sterilization of equipment, instrument preparation for surgery and how to best collaborate with surgeons to ensure successful outcomes. Students also complete a surgical technologist practicum in a real-world healthcare environment. Upon graduation, students are prepared to take the CST exam and enter the workforce or continue their education by transferring their credits into the Rasmussen College Health and Wellness Bachelor’s degree program.
Along with the Brooklyn Park/Maple Grove campus, the Surgical Technologist program is also available at the Rasmussen College St. Cloud and Moorhead, Minn. campuses as well as the Romeoville/Joliet, Ill. campus.
