Rasmussen College Celebrates 41st Annual Week Of The Young Child

Rasmussen College students and faculty members will support NAEYC’s Week of the Young Child with a series of local events and activities aligned with this year’s theme: “Healthy Minds! Healthy Children!” Rasmussen College campuses nationwide will host book readings of Feelings to Share from A to Z by Todd and Peggy Snow at local childcare facilities.

Students and faculty members will also host ‘Pinwheels for Prevention,’ a pinwheel garden display symbolizing child abuse and neglect prevention nationwide. The pinwheels represent Prevent Child Abuse America’s efforts to change the way the U.S. thinks about prioritizing prevention and the importance of community activities and public policies that ensure child abuse and neglect never occur.

“Nearly 4,600 children were hospitalized as a result of physical abuse in the U.S. in 2006, and that number is rising year after year” said Cecelia Westby, School Director, Rasmussen College School of Education. “Rasmussen College student and faculty members are taking a stand by joining efforts with the National Association for the Education of Young Children to help bring awareness to child abuse and neglect nationwide.”

Participating in Week of the Young Child events enables Rasmussen College to continue its dedication to be a primary contributor to the growth and development of the communities it serves. Rasmussen College offers Early Childhood Education Associate degrees and Certificate programs for students interested in pursuing a career in the field of early childhood education. The curriculum, based on national best practices in early childhood teacher preparation established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, prepares students for a lifetime of positively influencing children’s lives by promoting healthy growth and development in all areas from social to intellectual.
