Rasmussen College Earns International Recognition For Its Student Tutoring Program
College's Tutor Excellence Program Awarded International Certification
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (May 23, 2013) – The Rasmussen College Learning Center is proud to announce it has earned the International Tutor Training Program Certification for its student tutoring program, Tutor Excellence. The certification, which is awarded by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA), recognizes the successful work of tutors and sets an internationally accepted standard for skills and training. Rasmussen College is only the second college in the country with a tutoring program that spans multiple states to earn the certification.
“I am grateful the CRLA recognizes the work of the Learning Center team and our commitment to excellence for our students and our tutors,” said Emily O’Connor, Director of Library and Learning Services at Rasmussen College. “Early in the development of the Tutor Excellence program, the core team developed a value proposition that includes quality, integrity and ongoing improvement of our tutors and tutoring program.”
More than 50 student tutors have completed Rasmussen College’s Tutor Excellence program which is offered to both residential and online students. The Rasmussen College Learning Center has utilized several online tools to provide students with the training needed to complete the certification, as well as a tutor tracking system to monitor how tutoring is benefitting the College. The CRLA was so impressed by the number of certified tutors and the tracking system it is now using the Rasmussen College Tutor Excellence program as a model for other schools.
“Every Learning Center Coordinator throughout the College has had a role in the development of this program – from vision to testing and implementation, and we have worked very hard to ensure we’ve developed a process and resources that will stand the test of time,” said O’Connor. “I hope other institutions will benefit from our experience.”
