Rasmussen College Hosts Dozens of Game Developers For 5th Annual Global Game Jam
Game developers and students from around the state compete in nonstop game creation event
OCALA, Fla. (Jan. 25, 2013) – The Rasmussen College Ocala campus is excited to be a host site for the 5th Annual Global Game Jam event this weekend, Jan. 25-27. For 48 hours, game enthusiasts from around the state will learn what it takes to create a game as a team and on a very tight deadline.
“A growing number of industries are calling for game and simulation professionals to help meet their programming needs,” said William Sattelmeyer, Rasmussen College School of Design Program Coordinator. “Global Game Jam gives our Game and Simulation Programming students the opportunity to use what they’ve learned and put it to the ultimate test – all while having fun at the same time.”
Rasmussen College students will be joined by game developers from other colleges in North and Central Florida. When this year’s theme is revealed Friday night, teams of students will quickly begin creating a game from scratch, including rules, art and all the coding.
“It’s not easy to create a game in just 48 hours,” said Sattelmeyer. “It’s going to take patience, creative thinking and a lot of teamwork. I’m excited to see what our students come up with.”
Rasmussen College is one of more than 300 locations around the globe hosting the event. Global Game Jam is the largest game jam in the world, gathering developers from more than 44 countries every year. Last year, more than 2,000 games were created in 47 different countries.
The Global Game Jam starts at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25 and runs until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27. The Rasmussen College Ocala campus is located at 4755 SW 46th Court.
