Rasmussen College Raises More Than $1,500 For Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare During Gaming Marathon
College hosts technology event to raise funds for local hospital
BLOOMINGTON, MN (Oct. 24, 2011) – Rasmussen College in Bloomington, MN raised $1,529 for Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare during a recent 24-hour game marathon hosted on Saturday, October 15. Community members, students, and faculty members were invited to play console, social networking games, and table-top games at the campus to support the mission of saving and improving lives of children receiving healthcare through the Children's Miracle Network.
One hundred percent of the donation raised by Rasmussen College will be used to support research and training, purchase needed equipment, and pay for uncompensated care for Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. This was the second year the College raised money for the Children's Miracle Network, but the first year that Rasmussen partnered with a non-profit organization called Extra Life, an annual video game marathon that supports the Children's Miracle Network. Additionally, GameStop™ attended the event to set up different gaming systems and participate in the activities.
Gamers were required to raise $24 or more in order to be invited to take part in a campus event on Saturday, November, 5. Gamers who raised $96 or more qualified to take part in an on-campus event and a chance to win games and gift cards. There were seven people who participated in the fundraising efforts on campus and remotely.
Jeff Brosz, campus director at Rasmussen College in Bloomington stated, “It is so rewarding to see the direct impact our faculty, staff, and students had to benefit the Gillette Children’s Specialty Hospital. At Rasmussen College, our mission is to support the needs of the communities we serve, and this event is a great example of how we partner with local organizations to make a difference. Our students were very excited to support this event and we are excited to host this event again next year.”
