Rasmussen College Students Excel At National Collegiate Business Competition
Students from the Romeoville/Joliet, IL campus recognized at DECA Collegiate Leadership Academy
CHICAGO (Dec. 21, 2011) –Rasmussen College in Romeoville/Joliet, IL is proud to announce that three business degree students attended and received top marks at the DECA Collegiate Leadership Academy (CLA) in New York City on November 17-19, 2011. The Collegiate Leadership Academy (CLA) is a three-day summit that builds leadership skills of collegiate DECA members, college organizations, and college students through competitive events and leadership development.
Three business students from the Romeoville/Joliet college campus participated in the event: Alicia Garcia (Accounting), Efrain Moreno (Business Management), and Katherine Byrne (Business Management). Alicia Garcia led her team to second place in the Advertising and Marketing Track competition. The Rasmussen College School of Business coordinator, Venus Fisher, supports the campus’ DECA program.
“At Rasmussen College, our mission is to help build and inspire successful professionals, and through the support of excellent academic instruction and extracurricular programs like the DECA Collegiate Academy, we encourage this mission,” said Romeoville/Joliet Campus Director Amy King. “On behalf of the Rasmussen College campus leadership, we congratulate the students and supporting business school staff for serving as thought leaders within the college and post-secondary business education.”
During the competition, students participated in discussions and consultations with business and industry leaders. Students are divided into case study teams, who conduct company visits, corporate leader interviews, and behind-the-scenes tours to learn the latest business trends. Students then submit an executive summary and present the solutions to a panel of industry-leader judges. Participating students chose from five different industries: sports and entertainment marketing, fashion merchandising and retail management, international business and finance, and hospitality and culinary arts.
“We look forward to seeing how our successful DECA students take the learns they received in New York City and apply them in the classroom and in their outside lives. The career experience they receive and the knowledge they gain from interacting with industry leaders and other students – that’s the real benefit gained from summits such as the CLA,” said King.
