Rasmussen College Provides Grants To Active Duty Military Students Impacted By The Suspension Of Federal Tuition Assistance
Grants will replace military funding for service members’ College tuition
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (June 5, 2013) – Rasmussen College, a leader in post-secondary higher education, announced today it will provide grants to the dozens of active duty military students whose tuition assistance was suspended earlier this year due to federal spending cuts – also known as the sequestration. The spending cuts to federal agencies, including the Department of Defense went in to effect March 1, 2013. As a result, the Army, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Air Force temporarily cut their popular Tuition Assistance (TA) programs to make up for the decrease in funding to their service branches.
“The tuition assistance our active duty military students receive from these federal programs enables them to pursue a college education,” said Kristi Waite, Rasmussen College President. “We know how important education is to not only our military students, but their families, and supplementing this financial loss helps ensure their college investment remains affordable and allows these students to stay enrolled and on track toward graduation.”
The Tuition Assistance program provides up to $4,500 a year to active military members. Rasmussen College will replace the suspended funds with grants for the amount of aid eligible students would have received for the spring 2013 academic quarter.
“If military members are going to be successful when reintegrating into civilian life and competitive in the current job market, it’s important they are able to pursue a postsecondary credential,” said Tom Slagle, Rasmussen College Chief Executive Officer. “Rasmussen College will continue to fully support and assist our active duty military students, and we remain dedicated to helping every one of our students in their pursuit of a college education.”
The Rasmussen College grants will be disbursed before the end of the spring 2013 academic quarter. The Pentagon has reinstated the Tuition Assistance program and funding is currently available for the upcoming summer academic quarter.
