School of Justice Studies Student Fulfills Childhood Dream

What do you want to do when you grow up? It’s a question many of you probably wrote an essay about in grade school. Some of you may still be trying to answer that question. From a professional athlete to a doctor or firefighter, most of us had childhood dreams. Aaron Gelle of Blaine, Minn. says he’s wanted to be a police officer since he was seven years old

“I want to help people,” said Gelle. “When I was young, I dreamed of wearing a badge, and I know if I change just one person’s life for the better, I’ve accomplished something great in my life.” Gelle is currently enrolled in the School of Justice Studies Law Enforcement Associates degree program at the Rasmussen College Blaine campus. He’s expected to graduate in December. Before Rasmussen College, Gelle says he took law enforcement classes at other schools in the Twin Cities area, but he didn’t get the support he needed.

“A friend of mine recommended Rasmussen College,” said Gelle. “From the moment I walked on campus, I knew it was the right place for me. The instructors either work in the field or have in the past, so they bring real world experience into the classroom.” Gelle has a lot to be proud of. At just 20 years old, he’s the youngest team leader the program in Blaine has ever had.

“It’s a big responsibility, but I really enjoy it,” said Gelle. “There are 23 of us in the program. If the group fails, it’s on me. It’s been a great experience so far.” When he graduates, Gelle says he’d like to become a K9 Police Officer because he loves working with animals. It’s a dream he says is now possible thanks to Rasmussen College.

“You‘re not just another number,” said Gelle. “At Rasmussen College, they truly care about your success.” Gelle has enjoyed his classes so much, he’s decided to continue his education at Rasmussen College and get his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. If you’re still trying to find your dream, Gelle has this advice.

“If money didn’t mean anything, what job would you do for fun?” asked Gelle. “When you answer that question, pursue that dream, and Rasmussen College can help you do that.”
